Messiah – Jeremiah 31:31-34

“Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before.  What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.  What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”  ~ Dr Seuss

“These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you —that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ~ Jesus [Luke 24:44 HCSB]

Focal Passage:

31 “Look, the days are coming ”—this is the Lord’s declaration —“when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. 32 This one will not be like the covenant I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt —a covenant they broke even though I had married them”—the Lord’s declaration. 33 “Instead, this is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after those days ”—the Lord’s declaration. “I will put My teaching within them and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be My people. 34 No longer will one teach his neighbor or his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for they will all know Me, from the least to the greatest of them”—this is the Lord’s declaration. “For I will forgive their wrongdoing and never again remember their sin.” [Jeremiah 31:31-34 HCSB]

Focal Passage:

The Immanuel Prophecy

10 Then the Lord spoke again to Ahaz: 11 “Ask for a sign from the Lord your God —from the depths of Sheol to the heights of heaven.” 12 But Ahaz replied, “I will not ask. I will not test the Lord.” 13 Isaiah said, “Listen, house of David! Is it not enough for you to try the patience of men? Will you also try the patience of my God? 14 Therefore, the Lord Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive, have a son, and name him Immanuel. 15 By the time he learns to reject what is bad and choose what is good, he will be eating butter and honey.16 For before the boy knows to reject what is bad and choose what is good, the land of the two kings you dread will be abandoned. 17 The Lord will bring on you, your people, and the house of your father, such a time as has never been since Ephraim separated from Judah —the king of Assyria is coming.” [Isaiah 7:10-17 HCSB]

Focal Passage:
14 Then the Lord God said to the serpent: Because you have done this, you are cursed more than any livestock and more than any wild animal. You will move on your belly and eat dust all the days of your life. 15 I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your seed and her seed. He will strike your head, and you will strike his heel. [Genesis 3:14-15 HCSB]

The first prophesy is perfectly placed in a passage of God’s Word in which most people, regardless of their spiritual journey, are at least generally familiar. The historical account contains all the elements necessary for an epic documentary; temptation, condemnation, and salvation. Continue Reading…

Messiah – 1 in a 100 billion, billion, billion, billion

“These are My words that I spoke to you while I was still with you —that everything written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms must be fulfilled.” ~ Jesus [Luke 24:44 HCSB]

The Holy Bible, God’s Word, is the most unique book in the world. It was written over a span of 1500 years by 40 different authors, all inspired by the Holy Spirit. All that would be self proclaimed fiction if it weren’t for over a hundred prophecies that, most importantly, were fulfilled in the birth, life, death, resurrection, and ascension of Jesus of Nazareth. Even that might be explained away as being written after the fact with precise observation, if it weren’t for the Dead Sea Scrolls and the Septuagint, which were written hundreds of years before Jesus was born. The Septuagint (sometimes abbreviated LXX) is the name given to the Greek translation of the Jewish Scriptures. The Septuagint has its origin in Alexandria, Egypt and was translated between 300-200 BC. Confidence in the authenticity of the Scriptures and in the person of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, is central to our faith.

What are the odds of 7 of these prophesies being fulfilled, let alone over 100?
